Angel House Preschool and Child Care Center was developed in 1987 at Blessed Sacrament Church to serve the community of Sioux City and the surrounding areas. In 2001 Angel House opened a second location, Angel House Child Care at Villa Maria.

Angel House Preschool and Child Care will provide experiences to promote each child's spiritual, emotional, social, physical, and educational growth within a Christian-based environment.

OBJECTIVES



Angel House is a nonprofit, church-owned program. Angel House is committed to the following NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) core values:

CLOUDS (Two Year Olds at the Villa Maria location)



Each day children are exposed to developmentally appropriate activities that involve gross and fine motor skills, language development, and self-help skills. The children practice daily prayers before meals. Daily information sheets are shared by parent/guardian and staff to provide good communication. A flexible schedule and lesson plans are posted in the classroom. Children enjoy daily outside time whenever the weather permits.



RAINBOWS (Three Year Olds at both locations)



Angel House is using Creative Curriculum as a written curriculum to guide learning opportunities for the children. Each day children are provided with both teacher-directed and child-directed activities. Children are given opportunities to develop gross and fine motor skills as well as self-help skills. Language development is stimulated through nursery rhymes, stories, finger plays, songs, calendar, Bible stories, and dramatic play. Children enjoy center time which explores literacy and language skills, art and creative expression, math skills, health and safety, social studies, and science. Daily prayers before meals are practiced.



A daily schedule is predictable yet flexible to meet the individual needs of the children. The schedule and curriculum allow active and quiet activities, as well as group and individual time. Children also enjoy outside play as weather permits.

Angel House Preschool and School Age Center is located at the corner of 30th and Jones. The building hours are 6:45 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.



In the fall of 2010, Angel House at the Blessed Sacrament location will offer four programs. A 15% discount will be given for additional children in a family.





PRESCHOOL

Angel House will offer a Preschool Initiative Classroom in the fall of 2010 at the Blessed Sacrament location. The Iowa Preschool Initiative is a collaborative effort between Sioux City Community Schools and area preschools to provide quality preschool for children who are four years old by September 15 and reside in Sioux City.



A child in the Preschool Initiative will be instructed by a teacher who is certified in Early Childhood. Her/his assistant will also need to meet certain educational criteria.



Our Preschool Initiative Class will be held on Mon/Wed/Fri mornings from 8:45 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Children who are 3 and 5 years old are also invited to attend preschool in the Mon/Wed/Fri session. Lunch will not be served during this session.



Preschool only will be offered on Tues/Thurs a.m. and will operate 8:45 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and for children ages 3, 4, and 5.



There will be a limited number of positions in each session.



Our preschool program is based on Creative Curriculum, the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards (QPPS), and follows the Iowa Early Learning Standards.



Our preschool curriculum includes religion, language and literacy, social and emotional development, physical development, mathematics, technology, creative arts, music and expression, science, health, and safety.



Extended care will be offered before morning preschool sessions and after the afternoon sessions, but not over the lunch hour.







ALL DAY CHILD CARE - Ages 4 and 5 Years Old

Angel House offers all day child care for children ages 4 and 5 years old. If the child is four years old by September 15 and resides in Sioux City, he/she will be in the Preschool initiative Classroom. All child care children will receive our preschool program in the morning, and then remain in the building for child care activities. Our noon meal is provided by Mercy Medical Center.







SCHOOL AGE PROGRAM

Angel House serves children attending Holy Cross School from both the Blessed Sacrament location and the St. Michael's location. Children are transported to and from the two locations via public school bus transportation. We also provide services to Bryant Elementary School.





Angel House offers school age children before and after school care, as well as supervision surrounding late starts and early dismissals of school. We offer full day child care on vacation days, snow days, and during the summer.

Angel House Child Care at Villa Maria is located behind Catholic Charities at the corner of 21st and West Street. The building hours are 6:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

ALL DAY CHILD CARE

Angel House at the Villa Maria location provides year round all day child care for children ages 2 - 5 years old. Angel House is participating in the Iowa Preschool Initiative, the Iowa Quality Preschool Program Standards (QPPS), and follows the Iowa Early Learning Standards.



Our curriculum is based on Creative Curriculum. The curriculum includes religion, language and literacy, social and emotional development, physical development, mathematics, technology, creative arts, music and expression, science, health, and safety.



The children receive our preschool program each morning, a noon meal from Mercy Medical Center, and two snacks during their day.
